Iguanas by LunasCrafts Iguanas by LunasCrafts
I didn't plan to crochet iguanas but when I saw the pattern, I just couldn't resist. :) If I ever find the time I want to add some cool color morphs, turquise, albino (yellow) and snow (white). Trying to make up my mind for eyes - black would look weird on white and probably on yellow too. But on all pictures I've seen iguanas have pupils that are not quite round but not as oval as cat eyes, so colored eyes don't match either.

Iguanas are available in my Etsy shop. Pattern by June Gilbank

That is a perfectly fine choice. :) I like to check available patterns to see if there's something just like what I have in mind, and if there is then save some efforts, especially if it is by a reliable designer. This way I can concentrate energy on designs that might have a sale potential later, as well as avoid making something too similar to an existing pattern (the last thing I want is copycat accusations :))

That's a very fair point as well. :D Yeah people get a bit sensitive on the copy thing, which is totally ridiculus sometimes because there are only so many ways you can crochet a simple design... you're bound to get something similar if you're aiming for the same shape..

Guess it goes both ways because there are the crazy overprotective people, but then there are also "designers" who blatantly copy existing designs, like that's gonna be their ticket to fame or something. :eyeroll:

Oh yeah well that's not ok, but we who don't do it shouldn't get the blame for that. :P

You really love June's patterns huh? x3 I like what you do with her baby bunnies pattern but these look pretty neat too, did you wire these ones?

Her style is similar to my own so it's like why reinvent the wheel. :D Especially when I know that her patterns are clear and well-written (sadly not true of all designers :( hate to pay for half-baked stuff)
The legs are wired, but the head/body shaping is built in. Thinking of wiring the tail too next time, though I think iguana tails are not prehensile so it isn't that much fun anyway. :D

It really does. Even though I have the baby bunnies pattern of hers, when I saw you post yours after your larger ones, I instantly thought it was yours :) I'm like these go perfect together!

Yea, I haven't bought a lot of patterns, but sometimes its just like uh...what? Like they skipped a row, didn't count how many stitches there were, or didn't test the pattern once they were done to see if anything was wrong. I've had a few typos before, but nothing too bad and I always fix it when its pointed out.

Well, even if they done have a prehensile tail, if you posed them outside somewhere you might want to be able to move the head and tail. xD I put wire in everything, I love posing them.

We are only human so mistakes happen. What really irritates me is if the mistake is spotted (others pointed it out in Ravelry descriptions weeks before me and I bet I was not the only one to turn directly to the designer for correction) and yet there's no pattern update even months later. It is lazy AND stupid because it means more people will nag the designer, more time wasted on replying individually.

I admire your posable creatures, but I'm rather paranoid about wires snapping from too many bending (not that it ever happened even with my dragons that I played with a fair bit, but paranoia isn't reasonable :)) Even though I always include in my Etsy descriptions that the item is not suitable for young kids because the last thing I need is an inventive toddler hurting himself and the parents blaming me.

Thank you! :) Maybe you just didn't pick the right patterns to start with? Some are a struggle to follow even for experienced crocheters.

I tried a horse, then a fox and then just a ball that turned into a splodge hehe.
I think its going to take me a lot of time befor I can do anything that would be recognised

Do you have trouble with the stitches themselves, or just with amigurumi? If you need help with crochet itself, then it's best to find someone who can teach you in person (yarn shops often offer free classes). If it's only amigurumi, then maybe the problem was with the pattern, you may want to visit www.planetjune.com - June offers some free patterns that are clear and well written, as well as great tutorials especially for amigurumi techniques.

Oh no, I am not really a pro with crochet but I have been able to make a couple of afghans, some scarves, a sweatshirt, some pillowcases and LOADS of gloves and baby booties.
I just seem to have trouble with Amigurumi. My brain doesn't like it. I tried a fox pattern from Planetjune and failed..
I think its one of those things I just can't grasp until I put ALOT of time into it.
Thank you so much for the advice :D

That's strange because if you have no problem with gloves and booties, amigurumi is not much different. I hope soon it will just click and you'll make beautiful amis.
