English lop rabbit by LunasCrafts English lop rabbit by LunasCrafts
When researching rabbits, I totally fell in love with English lops. :) From all rabbit breeds, they have by far the longest ears - the Guinness record holder had an ear span of 79 cm/over 31". The huge ears mean they have some special needs: their nails must be trimmed regularly, the floor/bedding must be kept very clean, and they need heated space in the winter to avoid frost bites.
Another rather unusual trait is their semi arched body shape, only a few other breeds belong to this type. Their body is a bit mandolin like, with the back arch starting only behind the straight shoulders (rather than form an even curve right from the neck).

:D Not as many as I would like, I have such a long list that I really really want to crochet, and it just keeps growing. But not everything I submit here is new actually. I planned to make my dA account in a kind of portfolio to have an easy reference for inquiries. But when I go through my own archives I often feel my pictures are just not up to be posted on a place with 'art' in its name. I just prefer to crochet rather than setting up exquisite photo shoots...

I guess all yarn addicts wish there were 48 hours in a day. And extra storage rooms for all the awesome yarn. Where is a TARDIS when you need it? :D

THE EARS
English lops really do have some crazy-big ears, they're quite adorable. I remember running into them when I was studying rabbit breeds to decide what I wanted. I'm rather fond of lops in general, but I don't think I could have ever handled an English lop. (I have a Holland lop, now, with hopes to get a lionhead friend for him or even another lop - whichever grabs my heart in a nearby shelter, really.)

I love the realistic design, just as someone else said, and this is so cute. :D I can't say I wouldn't take one of these in amigurumi form! Bookmarking for the hopes to buy the pattern someday soon. <3

There is something especially cute about lop bunnies, so I totally understand your choice. :)

Aww what a cutie! Thought I've got to admit that i don't quite undestand why people have to breed these new rabbit breeds that can't even cope without human help... poor thingies..

But still they are really cute. :P

English lop is a very old breed - it was the original lop rabbit and one of the first "fancy" rabbit breeds. (though maybe the ears got more exaggerated by time) I agree that no animals should be bred that are suffering, but these guys need mostly what good owners would provide to their rabbits anyway, they are just more sensitive to poor conditions than the average bunny. The biggest difference is that they don't cope well with winter, but then maybe the huge ears are useful against summer heat. :)

Well as long as they have good lives I guess it doesn't matter.
